Essay Structure

The core components of every essay are an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. For many students, choosing how to organize the content in the body of an essay is the most difficult part of the formatting process.

When writing an essay, each sentence and paragraph matters. However, introductions are unique in a certain way. Similar to going on a first date, you want the introduction to be almost perfect. You want to give your finest performance and create a good first impression.

You want to make a point about the topic in each paragraph. Let's go back to the "give me more money" scenario from earlier. Each rationale you have for getting a raise should have its own paragraph, and that paragraph should elaborate on that claim.
